When I'm not writing, making films or busy in Stratford, I work freelance for external clients. I'm always interested in writing commissions, script editing opportunities, or a chance to use my workshop skills. Some of my other work includes the following:
Writer - Director - Producer
Welcome to the website for the Writer, Director and Producer Hayley Pepler. Here you can find out about my latest projects. Please take a look around.
I WRITE SCREENPLAYS
My screenplay, The Shadow of Ingestre Hall - recently received an Royal Television Society Nomination for Best Drama. In 2014 my original sitcom Motherhoodies was chosen to be filmed in front of a live audience in Cardiff's St Davids Hall. I co-developed web drama series Dispossess with Rebecca Hardy from edge21 productions.
I PRODUCE FILM, TV, & EVENT CINEMA
I have fifteen years experience in Production for television, film and live event cinema. I've worked for independent production companies such as Maverick Television and Presentable Limited, theatre companies such as the Royal Shakespeare Company Almeida Theatre and for broadcasters including BBC and Channel 4.
I MAKE FILMS
I'm currently directing some short films for The Royal Shakespeare Company's live to cinema broadcasts. During these films we talk to some of the many talented craftspeople, academics and artists that create the work we see in the theatre and on screen. Each play in the cinema during the theatre interval.
I WRITE PLAYS
My play, In The Motherhood - a comedy about a group of PTA mums who raise money by fair means or foul - premiered to sell out audiences at Birmingham REP in 2015. Directed by Tom Saunders and produced by Sarah-Jane Watkinson, tickets are now available for the tour of this prouduction in early 2017.
In the Motherhood began life as a short play I developed while attending the Birmingham REP's new writing scheme. Its based on my own experiences as a nervous new mum, trying my best to fit in and make sense of the new identity I was given when I had a child.
Since 2013 I have been part of the team that produces the live cinema broadcasts from The Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford Upon Avon. I work as the Assistant Producer for the project and a director of the additional content films. During a broadcast we can work with anything up to 50 production staff and crew and my role is to make sure that they collaborate seamlessly with the theatre and RSC side of the production. We have now broadcast twelve productions from Stratford, including Love's Labour's Lost, Love's Labour's Won, The Merchant of Venice, Othello, Henry V and Hamlet. I also occasionally produce the RSC's Education broadcasts which is when the recorded capture is streamed into schools across the country in collaboration with a student team at Ravensbourne.
DISPOSSESS is the latest in a series of collaborations with writer and filmmaker Rebecca Hardy under the name Treacy & Hardy. Together, we have written a number of scripts and produced a variety of films. Dispossess was directed, produced and edited by Rebecca, who is an exceptionally talented and multi-skilled filmmaker. Our work combines an interest in fantasy with a huge dose of humour. Later this year, we'll begin our next script and revisit our current work in development, Previous. ... and these are my two greatest productions, my boys Gene and Milo. Also joined in the background of this shot by my composer husband Felix. Since becoming a mum I've been inspired to use this utterly life-changing event in my much of my work. I find children's capacity to see the best in everything and their joy in living a life full of laughter so engaging that I do my best to infuse all of my comedy and drama with a lightness of touch and plenty of fun. Please get in touch if you'd like to know more or read my work.
